“War journal. Chronicles from besieged Sarajevo”
After the start of the war in 1992, Oslobodjenje journalist Zlatko Dizdarević wrote a weekly chronicle about life in besieged Sarajevo for “Slobodna Dalmacija”. A French journalist gathered Dizdarević’s writings and published them in French as a book, initially without Dizdarević’s knowledge. The book, published in 1993, was titled “War journal. Chronicles from besieged Sarajevo” and became a primary source in France about the daily struggles in besieged Sarajevo ; it also articulated the bitterness at having been abandoned by the international community. Soon, English, Italian, Spanish and German versions were also published. Zlatko Dizdarević was subsequently invited by solidarity groups in France, Italy and other countries which organized public discussions where he bore witness about the situation in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
